Okay...So I know it has been over a year since I have written on this blog, but this post is special and I just really wanted to share it.
Yesterday was a milestone for us with Savannah. After almost 4 years, she finally gave up her pacifier! A while back, we took Savvy to the dentist because she had some cavities. The dentist told us, that we should take the pacifier away. It was not the reason for the cavities, but was causing her teeth to push outward. At that point, we decided that we would take it away and give it to her only at nap time and bed time. Well, nap time soon wore off and it was only at night that she was using her pacifier. Every night we encouraged her to sleep without it, but unfortunately couldn't get her to agree. Being the loving (suckers) parents that we are, we never took it away, but continued to persuade her. About 2 weeks ago, we went to a Christmas party where Savannah was given a sleeping bag. She begged for us to let her sleep in it. We agreed to let her sleep in her bed with it....as long as she slept without her pacifier. Reluctantly, she agreed! To our surprise, she slept the whole night and every night since without her pacifier. We were so proud!
Bryan heard some people talking one day to their child about getting rid of the pacifier. This is where this idea came from. Yesterday, we took Savannah to Build-a Bear. She was allowed to pick out any animal she wanted, dress it, name it...etc. She picked out a bunny. She had it stuffed and inside as the heart of the bunny now rests her pacifier! She kissed her pacifier goodbye and helped the man stuff her bunny. We then let her choose the bunny's clothes and helped her name it. Savannah is now the proud owner of Belle Bunny....the Cowgirl Princess!!! LOL She is such a big girl! It took almost 4 years, but she decided when it was time and she told us when she was ready to stop using her pacifier. We are so proud of her!!! She now has a special stuff animal that she can always keep and it will forever hold a special piece of her childhood. *TEAR*
